Rachel Rushing is a multidisciplinary artist interested in installation and social practice. When not collaborating, Rushing’s work takes the form of photo-based installations and participatory making practices with an emphasis on cultural equity, intersectional ecofeminist theory, and the ethics of artistic production.

Rushing graduated from the University of North Texas with a Master of Fine Arts in Studio Arts in 2014. Soon after she founded and operated a social practice community space, Sunset Art Studios, in Dallas, Texas with the goal to create access to the arts through public programming, fiscal and capital support for artists, and scholarly research and artistic production. She has volunteered for the Society of Photographic Education as a coordinator for the 2016 South Central Regional Conference and as the founding secretary of the Contingent Faculty Caucus. Rushing spent 5 years a the Nasher Sculpture Center building and leading the Visitor Experiences team where she advocated for fair pay, worker’s rights, and actionable DEAI practices. Currently Rushing is Director for the Taber Art Gallery in Holyoke, MA and is working with area non-profits to build inclusive and affordable opportunities for artist studios and professional development.
